21 May 2019, Rarotonga, Cook Islands - Just last week in the presence of the United Nations Secretary General, António Guterres, Pacific Island Forum Leaders reiterated that climate change is the single greatest threat to our Blue Pacific. Given this threat, it is imperative to enable early disaster preparedness action when early warnings are received.

22 May 2019, Rarotonga, Cook Islands - The Government of New Zealand were commended today for its support towards climate and ocean science work in the Pacific islands through the Climate and Ocean Support Program in the Pacific (COSPPac2).

This was announced at the opening of the Annual Program Performance Review and Planning Meeting of COSPPac2 in the Cook Islands today.

18 July 2016, Rarotonga, Cook Islands - Fifteen Pacific Island Met Services across the region were gifted laptops to help strengthen their forecasting abilities using new 'downscaling' climate prediction software which will help provide weather and climate forecasts for Pacific island communities.

The Secretariat of the Pacific Regional Environment Programme (SPREP) in partnership with the Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation Climate Center is embarking on the regional Met project Korea-Pacific Climate Prediction Project (ROKPI-CLIPS).

21 July, 2015, Nuku’alofa, Tonga, PMC-3 - Cook Islands Meteorological Service, operating under the Ministry of Transport is striving to provide robust and sustainable weather information services to the people of Cook Islands.

And, the head of the Met Service, Arona Ngari shared with his colleagues from around the Pacific region that despite the fact that Cook Islands has been free of cyclone since 2010, his office needs to strengthen and improve its communications and early warning system.

“We need a good and robust early warning system in place,” said Ngari.
